Events for September

We will be meeting as usual on Thursday (4th September) at the Mitre from 8pm.  This gives us a chance to discuss opportunities for campaigning activities but also to have a chat and a drink.  Everyone is welcome.Cornmarket by Sacred Destinations

This will be followed up by a stall on the following Saturday (6th September).  This will probably be on Cornmarket Street in Oxford from 11am for a couple of hours.  If you fancy coming and lending a hand it helps to know who to expect, so please contact us.

Stall and Meeting for August

We’ll be having another stall on Cornmarket Street on Saturday 2 August.  We’ll be there from around noon for a couple of hours or so. As usual, helpers are very welcome.  All you need to do is hand out a few leaflets and direct people to sign our petition.  Following on from this we’ll be having our regular pub meeting on Thursday 7 August (back on the first Thursday of the month).  As usual this will be at the Mitre on the High Street from 8pm to discuss the next steps in our campaign.

We are going to be running a stall at the Cowley Rd Carnival on Sunday 6th July. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the government’s scheme, but the carnival is 6 hours long, so we are definitely going to need some helpers. Please let us know if you can lend a hand. There’s a lot of time to cover, but I don’t expect anyone to be helping for more than a couple of hours.Cowley Road Carnival Photo by Chubby Bat

Following on from the Carnival, we will be having our monthly meeting on Wednesday 9th July. This will be at 8pm at the Mitre on the High St in Oxford. As usual, we will be discussing where we go next with our campaign.

Events in June

We have the following coming up in June:

Thursday 5th June - Our monthly pub meeting at the Mitre on the High Street from 8pm.  We will discuss the campaign and where and what to do next.

Saturday 7th June - A street stall, but this time in a different place.  We are going to try the Cowley Road for a change.  Meet at the corner of Manzil Way at 10am.  We should be there for a couple of hours or more.  If you are coming along, it helps to know beforehand if possible.

We are going to be running a stall at Levellers Day in Burford on Saturday. More details and photos here after the event. UPDATED Here’s a picture, click on it for more Levellers Day Stall

Short notice again, I’m afraid, due to the school holidays.

We are going to be running another street stall in Cornmarket Street this coming Saturday (26 April). We are going to be doing the morning this time, from 10am for a couple of hours or so. If you can come along, it would help if you let us know, but willing volunteers turning up on the day are also welcome.

Then we will be having our regular monthly meeting at the Mitre next Thursday (1 May). As usual we will be meeting up at 8pm for an hour or so to chat about our campaign.

Council Elections 2008

We have written to every candidate standing for election in the city council elections in May 2008 to ask them their stance on the government’s identity card scheme. What is interesting so far is that we have had no fewer than 4 Labour Party candidates saying that they are against the scheme: Council Election 2008 ID Questionnaire Results.

A little short notice I know, but in case you missed it, we’ll be having a street stall this Saturday (29 March) in Cornmarket.  The plan is to meet up at 1pm by St Michael’s Tower and pitch up for a couple of hours nearby.

Then we’ll be having our regular monthly meeting the following Thursday (3 April).  As per usual we’ll be meeting at the Mitre on the High Street from 8pm.  See you there!

March Meeting

Having had a break in February to catch our breath after the media frenzy around the barbeque, we are back with a meeting in March. The date is Thursday 6 March at 8pm and as usual we’ll be meeting in the Mitre. We will be discussing where we go next in our campaign, which could include leafletting, the mythical public meeting or other events to keep us in the public eye. See you there!

Barbeque Roundup

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped at the barbeque. We managed to generate lots of media attention with multiple radio appearances and newspaper photo shoots plus the appearance of our local MP, several councillors and parliamentary candidates at the BBQ itself.

The article in the Oxford Mail even managed to generate 1 pro-ID comment which was followed by 12 anti-ID comments, which was very pleasing to see.
Now we just need to plan our next action, once I’ve got my breath back!
